Standard sizes, panel specs and transparent pricing for walk-in chillers and freezers, built to your exact space.
A walk-in cold room is a modular, insulated room built from prefabricated panels with its own dedicated refrigeration unit — used by restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, pharmacies and exporters who need reliable, walk-in-accessible cold storage rather than a standalone chest freezer or under-counter chiller. Because the panels are modular, we build to the exact footprint your space allows, not just a handful of fixed catalogue sizes.
Below is a practical guide to sizing, panel specification and chiller-vs-freezer decisions, based on the walk-in rooms we've installed across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru.
| Approx. Size | Typical Business | Approx. Installed Price (KSh) |
|---|---|---|
| 2m x 2m | Small restaurant, café, retail shop | 450,000 – 550,000 |
| 3m x 3m | Medium restaurant, small supermarket | 600,000 – 850,000 |
| 3m x 4m to 4m x 6m | Supermarket, hotel, distributor | 900,000 – 1,500,000 |
| Larger / custom footprint | Exporters, warehouses, agri-processors | Quoted after free site survey |
We typically specify 100mm PU (polyurethane) panels for standard chiller rooms, stepping up to 150mm or thicker for freezer rooms and for hot, humid locations like Mombasa where the outdoor unit works harder year-round. Thicker insulation costs a little more upfront but reduces running costs significantly over the life of the room.

Common sizes range from around 2m x 2m for a small restaurant chiller up to 4m x 6m or larger for supermarkets and distributors. We build to the exact footprint your space allows rather than only offering fixed off-the-shelf sizes.
A chiller room holds temperatures above freezing (typically 0-5°C) for produce, dairy and chilled goods, while a freezer room runs below freezing (typically -18°C to -25°C) for frozen stock, using a stronger compressor and thicker insulation panels.
We typically use 100mm PU panels for standard chiller rooms and 150mm or thicker for freezer rooms and hot-climate locations like Mombasa, since thicker insulation keeps running costs down over the life of the room.
A standard small-to-medium walk-in room is typically installed within 3-7 working days once panels and refrigeration equipment are on site, depending on size and site access.
